About this Course
This course will introduce you to the work of certified professional guardians and conservators (CPGCs). You’ll gain an understanding of when and how CPGCs provide services to adults with cognitive disabilities, including what their responsibilities and obligations are, as well as the limits of their authority. We’ll offer a basic overview of person-centered practice, the needs of vulnerable people, and the laws and regulations that structure the guardianship practice. We’ll also cover communication strategies, government and private resources, management of care and financial needs, and business practices.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
- The duties and limitations of ethical CPGCs in Washington state based on current laws and regulations
- How vulnerable people with cognitive deficits are identified and become involved in the guardianship legal process, including less restrictive alternatives
- How CPGCs enact their fundamental roles of decision maker and coordinator of services in partnership with government institutions and other resources
- Communication strategies for clients and other professionals
- Effective business practices for guardianship practice
