Financial Aid & Scholarships
Financial Aid Eligibility
Students enrolled in a UWPCE certificate program, specialization or course are not eligible for federal financial aid, including federal student loans. The only exception are those who are taking UWPCE credit courses required for admission to a degree program that’s approved for financial aid. For more information, contact the UW Office of Student Financial Aid at osfa@uw.edu.
UWPCE students are not eligible for the Washington State Tuition Exemption or Husky Promise programs.
UW matriculated students may be able to apply awarded financial aid toward UWPCE credit courses. For more information, contact the financial aid office at osfa@uw.edu. You are charged for UWPCE courses in addition to your standard university tuition.
Employer Educational Assistance
Some employers will cover all or part of the cost of a professional education. Check with your employer to see if such a program is available.
Loans
Private Loans
Although the UW does not encourage private loans, students who need help paying for their education may want to consider that route when other options have been exhausted.
Students may select the lender of their choice. The UW cannot recommend a lender to you. Be sure to understand how to compare lenders before selecting one. As a starting point, you might check your financial institution to see what loan options are available.
The Office of Student Financial Aid is available to answer questions about the private loan process. For information and resources about student loan repayment, or to submit a complaint relating to your student loan or student loan servicer, visit the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) website or contact the student loan advocate at loanadvocate@wsac.wa.gov.
LOAN DEFERMENTS
Students who want to defer payments on their federal student loans while taking UWPCE classes can request to have their deferment certified. You can find an in-school deferment form on the lender’s website. Complete the student section and sign, then scan and email the form to Registration Services at c2reg@uw.edu. You may request that the completed form be returned to you or directly to the lender.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available for many of our certificate programs. Awards are based on financial need and the potential for the certificate program to positively impact the applicant’s career path. To apply, you must be a current Washington state resident and not exceed household income limits. For more details, see the Scholarships page.
WORKSOURCE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS
If you've recently been laid off, you might be eligible for the WorkSource program, part of Seattle and King County's employment and training services system. WorkSource could extend your unemployment benefits and offer financial assistance if you're planning to start a new career in an in-demand occupation.
Many UWPCE certificate programs and specializations are WorkSource-eligible, so visit the Washington Career Bridge website and select "University of Washington Professional and Continuing Education" to see the full list of eligible certificates. Read about how to use WorkSource to train for an in-demand job.
UWPCE Lifelong Learning Incentive
Students who have earned a bachelor’s degree from the UW within the last three years may qualify for the UWPCE Lifelong Learning Incentive, a $300 discount toward a noncredit certificate program.
AMERICORPS EDUCATION AWARDS
Students who have completed their service in AmeriCorps qualify for a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. These funds can be used to cover educational expenses and, in some cases, living expenses and books and supplies.
Veterans Benefits
If you're a current or former service member, or a military dependent, you may be able to use VA education benefits to pay program costs. For more information, contact the UW Veterans Education Benefits Office.
If you'll be using VA education benefits, contact UWPCE Registration Services at c2reg@uw.edu prior to the third Friday of the quarter to make sure all needed authorizations are in place.
